Delicious Syrup Recipes
These syrup recipes are so tasty that you will want to make pancakes and waffles more often just to enjoy the syrup. Both syrups give you a little boost of nutrition because of the antioxidant additives. My family tends to make the blueberry syrup in the summer, when the berries are plentiful, and the Cranberry Grape Syrup in the winter. If you are interested in the nutritional benefits of the berries that are added to each of the syrups, then click on the two links listed. Cranberry Benefits and Nutrition
Blueberry Maple Syrup
2 cups maple syrup 1 ½ cups blueberries (fresh or frozen) 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
In a medium saucepan, combine the maple syrup and the blueberries. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and stir in the lemon juice. Pour into a serving bowl and serve warm. This syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Cranberry Grape Syrup
4 cups cranberry grape juice (try to get one that is 100% juice with no added sugar) 2 tablespoons honey
Pour the juice into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until you have a thick syrup that is reduced to 3/4 cup. This should take about 45 minutes to an hour. Remove from the heat and stir in the honey. Cover the syrup and chill for 8 hours (The chilling process will thicken the syrup even more).
This syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for one week.
